Partitioning Sparse Graphs into an Independent Set and a Forest of Bounded Degree

چکیده
An (I,Fd)-partition of a graph is a partition of the vertices of the graph into two sets I and F , such that I is an independent set and F induces a forest of maximum degree at most d. We show that for all M < 3 and d ≥ 2 3−M − 2, if a graph has maximum average degree less than M , then it has an (I,Fd)-partition. Additionally, we prove that for all 8 3 ≤ M < 3 and d ≥ 1 3−M , if a graph has maximum average degree less than M then it has an (I,Fd)-partition.

k-forested choosability of graphs with bounded maximum average degree
A proper vertex coloring of a simple graph is $k$-forested if the graph induced by the vertices of any two color classes is a forest with maximum degree less than $k$. A graph is $k$-forested $q$-choosable if for a given list of $q$ colors associated with each vertex $v$, there exists a $k$-forested coloring of $G$ such that each vertex receives a color from its own list. In this paper, we prov...
متن کاملComplexity and approximation ratio of semitotal domination in graphs
A set $S subseteq V(G)$ is a semitotal dominating set of a graph $G$ if it is a dominating set of $G$ andevery vertex in $S$ is within distance 2 of another vertex of $S$. Thesemitotal domination number $gamma_{t2}(G)$ is the minimumcardinality of a semitotal dominating set of $G$.We show that the semitotal domination problem isAPX-complete for bounded-degree graphs, and the semitotal dominatio...
متن کاملConstant time algorithms in sparse graph model
We focus on constant-time algorithms for graph problems in bounded degree model. We introduce several techniques to design constant-time approximation algorithms for problems such as Vertex Cover, Maximum Matching, Maximum Weighted Matching, Maximum Independent Set and Set Cover. Some of our techniques can also be applied to design constant-time testers for minor-closed properties. In Chapter 1...
متن کاملPlanar Graphs and Partial k-Trees
It is well-known that many NP-hard problems can be solved efficiently on graphs of bounded treewidth. We begin by showing that Knuth’s results on nested satisfiability are easily derived from this fact since nested satisfiability graphs have treewidth at most three. Noting that nested satisfiability graphs have a particular form of planar drawing, we define a more general form of graph drawing ...
متن کاملSpace-Efficient Approximation Scheme for Maximum Matching in Sparse Graphs
We present a Logspace Approximation Scheme (LSAS), i.e. an approximation algorithm for maximum matching in planar graphs (not necessarily bipartite) that achieves an approximation ratio arbitrarily close to one, using only logarithmic space. This deviates from the well known Baker’s approach for approximation in planar graphs by avoiding the use of distance computation which is not known to be ...
